Mail Art

Mail Art is the current challenge on the Paperartsy blog this week.

Here is my take on this..

I was inspired to create this after seeing the post from Wendy Mallas with her fab creation.

I started with the front piece of a Please Do Not Bend envelope, I always keep the card back for projects but always throw away this front piece.

Wendy said towards the end of her post to try  paler shades for the background, so I used some blobs of Cheesecake and 2 blobs of Claret Fresco Chalk Paints. Recently I have seen artists using a window blade to move paints, so I tried this also!!

I chose the images I wanted to use, from Wings Plate 4 and Letters Plate 5, and like Wendy I stamped them onto some tissue paper.

As Wendy suggested, I thought of different ways to use these images. In my mind they could be pictures that could be hung on a wall. For a bit of fun, I sketched onto the envelope some telegraph poles and used my pictures to hang from the wires!!. A white sharpie pen completed the frames.

Thanks to Wendy for the inspiration, great fun to think of different ways to incorporate your stamps into artworks!!

Bleach Technique.

The current challenge over at the Paperartsy blog this time is a Bleach Technique.

This is my creation!!

I started off with a piece of watercolour card, sprayed with water and sprinkled on some Infusions in Blackcurrant and a little Violet Storms.

Once dry, with the help of the video that Darcy supplied in the original post, I stamped with bleach using the larger chevron from Hot Picks 1501.

I followed the same technique using Mini 28.

I used the TCW Rebekah Meier designs stencil that is available on the Paperartsy website for the bird. I used a paperstump dipped in bleach and gently rubbed through the stencil.

I created the outline of my figure using a black and brown Pitt Artist pen.

I then glued the watercolour paper onto some reclaimed wood in the shape of an art house ready to sit on a shelf!

I love this technique, will be trying this again!!

Don't forget to check out the post and all of the inspiration supplied by all of the bloggers!!!

I used a Permanent Marker, did'nt realise this would be affected by Alcohol Ink, Like the effect though!!!!

Assemblage/Altered Art

Very proud to be one of the Guest Designers on the Mixed Media World blog this month.

The current challenge this month is Assemblage/ Altered Art.

Follow this link.

My assemblage creation came about from a collection of metal finds that have been found by Fatty our pig when she has been digging to find roots.

This is Fatty, I printed off a black and white picture and painted with some crackle glaze  and rubbed over some umber acrylic paint.

On a block of wood I drilled a few holes and attached all of the metal findings.

I was very pleased with the end result, an alternative to a boring picture frame!!!

Don't forget to check out the blog at my fellow guest designers and their projects for inspiration!!!

A big thank you to Ingrid for selecting me as a Guest Designer.

Oil Pastels...

I came across a box of Oil Pastels that I bought years ago. I think I used them once, and they went back into the cupboard!!

So, I created the background with layers of acrylic paint, and drew the outline of the dog and used my fingers to smudge the pastels.

Squares and Grids...

The current challenge is Squares and Grids over at the Paperartsy blog this fortnight.

I was inspired to create this after seeing Alison Hall's post, her abstract panel with geometric elements. My project ideas came to mind after I had read through Alison's post.

I started with some packaging from an embossing folder. I covered this in kitchen foil, I used Fresco's in Inky Pool. I love the effect as this colour is translucent you can still see some of the foil. I added some splats and drips with Fresco's in Caribbean Sea.

My geometric elements were created using some off cuts of grey board. I used Fresco's Slate Grey to create the frames. The other boards were painted with Fresco's Caribbean Sea. I stamped using Hot Picks 1501 and Mini 28.

The largest element, I painted with Caribbean Sea and applied some Vaseline. I painted some Inky Pool, and rubbed back to reveal the base layer. I wanted another colour in my project, so I added some Orange Rayon thread underneath.

When I glued all the elements in place, I noticed that the drips I had created were dripping side wards!!!. Never mind, I like the effect..

I like the overall effect of this project, the foil background looks different in daylight and night time.

Clean and Simple...

I was reading recently about the importance of 'white space' within a project. This is not something I do, as white space scares me a little, I always feel you need to do more.

So I have created this...

My substrate is a piece of A4 watercolour card, and I sprinkled over 3 colours of Brusho's, spritzed with water and stamped onto the card.

I was really pleased with the result. I really had to fight with myself to walk away from this as I wanted to add more. But I have decided to leave as it is.

This was a real challenge for me, I need to do more of these to gain some confidence in having 'white space' within my project...

Mixed Media Assemblage Face..

This is my attempt at assemblage face. All created onto scraps of wood.

This eye came to life by using one of the texture stamps from the Sheena range, looks just like an eye!!

The nose part was painted using  Pebeo Dyna paints in Bronze, I used a mark making tool to create the circles using the same range of paint in blue.

The mouth section comprises of a cut out from a magazine, and the crackle paint is from Deco Art Media.

This eye was made on a Tim Holtz fragment glass tile. I used Pebeo Gold lining medium to create the outline, a white sharpie pen and the blue is some nail polish!!

Great fun, love creating these small assemblages!!!

In The Garden...

In the Garden, is the theme on the Clarity Stamp Challenge this month.

I started off by making several Gelli Plate prints with the Clarity Stencil. I decided to choose the print that I made to use the spare paint that was on the stencil!!

On one of the spare prints, I stamped the letters to make the word Garden!

On a separate piece of card, I brayered on some Indigo Blu Hot Cocoa acrylic paint and stamped randomly the Clarity Dragonfly stamp. You can see this in the picture below.

I glued into position the letters and layered it all together.

Great fun, looks kind of Autumny!

Beads, Charms and Dangles..

Beads, Charms and Dangles are the theme this fortnight on the
Paperartsy blog.

Here is my take on this...

I started off with 5 strips of paper, the first 3 I sprinkled on some Infusions in Royal Blood. With a small blob of Fresco paint in Caribbean Sea, I dipped in my finger and rubbed over the paper.

With these 2 other strips, I used Infusions in A Bit Jaded with some Caribbean Sea and a small amount of Limelight.

I stamped using a stamp from Backgrounds Plate 2.

All were then rolled up into beads.

With some cord I fed these through pulling tight to keep secure.

Lastly, another view...

Brayering with Gesso, PaperArtsy Infusions etc...

Been having fun with the brayer, Gesso and Paperartsy Infusions,

This one started off with a layer of Black Gesso, then layer of white gesso and Paperartsy Infusions in Blackcurrant

I started off by using a dip pen and made some marks, I brayered over some white gesso, this made the ink run a little, but I like the effect..

A layer of white gesso, added Infusions in A Bit Jaded and Blackcurrant onto the glass mat and carried on brayering..

Lastly, white gesso and Black Knight Infusions..

Pattern Fun!!!

New challenge over on the PaperArtsy blog this fortnight, being Patterns.

Here is my take on the challenge...

I started off with some cardstock and using Backgrounds Plate 2, stamped the script stamp randomly.

I then brayered over some Caribbean Sea Fresco Chalk paint..

I spritzed on some water and sprinkled over some Infusions in Royal Blood and left overnight to dry..

I made up to an inky consistency some Fresco Paint in Bougainvillia, and used this with a dip pen to create my pattern...

Final pic after drying..

Great fun, really liked using my dip pen with the Fresco's, yet another use!!!
